“PICS OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN”

Back into looking at the Instagram project that i previously started. I am going to continue looking at cliche Instagram posts and how i can recreate them in an interesting way hopefully including the nylon tights i previously posted about.

Instagram is no longer just an app but is now a permanent word in our vocabulary.

“This is an Instagram moment”

“You should Instagram that”

“We need to put a picture on Instagram”

Every moment is an Instagram moment. And if we dont post pictures publicly, did it really happen?

1 week later

After a week of my new Instagram account I have accumulated over 100 “friends” and nearly 900 likes across my posey, pouty selfies. I have received many nice and nasty comments from Instagram users which sometimes sting a bit but mostly I just laugh them off. I do not understand the need in commenting cruel things on strangers pictures but I have been enjoying being a complete bam and not caring what pictures I post. Oh to be care free!!

Update on my Instagram account

Over the last 24 hours I have gained 30 followers (all of who are complete strangers) and have accumulated 371 likes over 38 photos. I don’t know why these strangers want to follow me as I amnt a celebrity or showing any talent in any way. I have gained some nice comments and also a mean one. I have been hashtagging words related to my pictures to gain followers and it seems to be working. I will keep posting pictures to gain more followers and receive more likes and comments. So far so good.

My new Instagram account

While researching artists who have been inspired by social media I came across a woman called Lindsay Bottos. She posted pictures on Tumblr of herself and embraced the cruel comments she received. I am very interested in why people would write abusive comments on a social networking site to strangers. Bottos had never done anything to them and it baffles me how some people can be so cruel. She posted that it was mostly “girl on girl hate” about appearances. I have now decided to make a new Instagram account to purely post pictures of myself and see if any strangers would post nice or mean comments to me. I feel I am being quite brave doing this as, like many people, I can be quite sensitive about my appearance and it can be hard when the aspects of yourself that you are most self conscious about are mocked. I have started to gain new followers and have been posting pictures and am currently waiting for the comments to arise. I have actually quite enjoyed having this separate Instagram account that none of my friends or anyone I know follows. I am a lot more confident when I post pictures on it and I don’t care as much about the caption or the filter or the picture itself. I can be who and what I want and post “posey” pictures without being judged by people I know , only people I don’t know which doesn’t seem to sting as much. The account name is laurend12 so follow if you want and leave me some comments please!

Crowds at gigs

I am just recently back from Ibiza and I had a great time!! My two friends and I stayed in Ibiza Rocks Hotel which plays host to many singers, rappers and DJs. We were lucky enough to be staying at the hotel when Tinie Tempah and Gorgon City were both playing! Now, I am guilty of taking a few pictures and videos when I am at a concert or festival to remind me of the fun I had. However, I noticed many people throughout the whole set enjoying the close up view of the artists through the screen of their mobile phones. If they just looked up they would realise how much better the quality of your experience is to watch through your eyes and not a camera. The vision from your eyes is much better than any HD smartphone camera! Put down your phones and dance, sing and have fun with your friends! You don’t need to have pictures and videos of an artist to prove you were there or show off to people! Your fun memories with your friends should be all that matters!
